My dad was casually talking to me about internet pen pal things. We looked at some of the sites but they all looked so sketchy. I've become friendly with some people online through things like youtube, myspace, etc... and they came about without really trying to find people but rather because I got a conversation going with them and the conversations have just kept on going. My dad was talking to me like it's a new thing. If he only knew I already know about such things and there are people that I started talking to online that I would consider friends. People that I would chill with IRL or online.
My dad did say something about pen pals or online friends that was insightful. He basically said that it's not about whether you ever meet in real life, it's about the quality of the friendship. He was talking about his one pen pal in the U.S. that he's actually kept in touch with since he was either an older teen. or in his early 20s. and has stayed in touch with right up to present day. You never know who or what you might be missing out on if you don't have an open mind and are willing to be honest with people through your words.
