Yesterday I finished up writing a Journal response to an excerpt from a work called The Madwoman in the Attic by Sandra Gilbert & Susan Gubar. It's a feminist essay that argues that women in the literary canon are usually depicted alternately as "angels of the house" or "monsters". I'm not a big fan of the strand of feminism that blames men and patriarchy absolutely for the condition of women. Radical Feminism. Not a fan of works written in that tradition. I like the other main line of feminism because they make actual arguments that are clearly well thought out. The other line is just protest gloom and doom.
What else? It was the birthday of one of my little cousins. He's just started elementary school recently. That's all I'll say for age reference about him. We were back at his house today to help finish up the party leftovers. His 2 older sisters are in High School. Going back to Friday, I checked out New Moon aka Twilight 2. I went in thinking that if it's bad or only decent, I'll get some great laughs like I did with the first. I can't take the first film seriously at all. It felt like there were no stakes or risk until the end. The second film thankfully oozes with risks and dangers for the main characters for most of the running time. I even found myself getting interested in the motivations of the male leads. Bella's an alright central character but she's much too clingy and dependent on her men. What kind of message is that for girls? Kristen Stewart is actually one of my favorite up and coming actresses. I've seen most of her flicks before Twilight. I'll continue to see most of her flicks outside of Twilight. The Trailer for Remember Me, Robert Pattinson's flick with Emilie de Ravin (Claire from LOST, one of my favorite TV shows, Claire + Charlie, one of my favorite parts of past few seasons of LOST) played right before it started. It looks like a really interesting love story that might be a bit offbeat. Emilie de Ravin is such a great actress. She's an Aussie that I hope ends up doing big things in Film internationally. She's got so much charisma and charm.
OK that might sound creepy later.
