Goodbye Auntie Flora/SuP 2010

So I ended off 2009 by saying goodbye to my Auntie Flora who passed just before Christmas Eve. Went to attend her funeral on December 30. She was the wife of one of my mom's Cousins. While I was growing up, my family would make the 7-8 hour drive down to Corvalis, Oregon to go and visit my Uncle, Aunt, and all my numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, etc. that lived down there and in Washington State. Auntie Flora was the embodiment of kindness and hard work. She never complained about anything and always made sure everyone was comfortable and having a good time. After the drive down, we went straight to the funeral home. Afterward, we all went to their house at the Farm for dinner. From there we all had a really fun night out Bowling and or cheering on those that were bowling. That's exactly what Auntie would have wanted us all to be doing. Having a great time together. The Funeral was tough. I cried less than when my Auntie Ella died in September. I don't know why. Most of us felt that it was sad that Auntie Flora passed but she was incapacitated because of the effects of 2 strokes over the last few years.

This entry feels perhaps a bit too candid and forthcoming. I needed to get this out. I'm tired of saying goodbye to close family members. I seriously hope that nobody passes this year. I don't know if I can take much more loss.

Here's to 2010. It's a Winter Olympics year. It's happening in my city of Vancouver. Gonna get a few weeks off in February because of it. Can't complain. Wait, I can. I'll probably be writing a paper over that "break" period. I watched the Robert Downey Jr./Jude Law, Guy Ritchie directed Sherlock Holmes the other night. It was pretty entertaining. Great characterizations and humour. It did begin a bit slow after the opening set piece. Overall, I would not mind seeing more adventures of this version of Sherlock at all.

That's about it for now. Later. Hope you all had a great New Year's Eve and start of 2010
